The exterior of your property is as important as the internal. At O’Brien Construction we like to make the external area work in conjunction with your internal space, to ensure that all important flow throughout the property. Designing a social space close to the kitchen will maximise its use and make it more accessible.

WORKING FROM HOME

With more and more people wishing to create a work life balance, working from home is becoming an option that many of us are turning to. If you have a space in your garden where you can place a cabin or wooden structure, we can build a modern, spacious office that gives you a short commute and provides the perfect divide from work and home life.

JULIE’S OFFICE

“We had moved from a house and needed to buy a shipping container to store furniture that wouldn’t fit in the new house. Seven years on and the container was empty and I was now working from home.

I didn’t like working in the house and we had a spare patch of land just off the patio that was perfect for an office. We decided that rather than build something from the ground up, we would use the empty container as a starting point.

First we needed to build a solid base, once this was complete, we then had the container lifted onto the blocks. Although the foot-print of the structure had been marked out on the floor, when I stood inside it, I realised it was a little too narrow. Chris suggested we extend it using a timber frame. The front and sides were cut open with an angle grinder to make space for the doors and windows. Once the frame was built the external was insulated and clad.”

“I decided I wanted a kitchen internally and an en-suite. I wanted these elements as I felt that the building had the potential as an Airbnb studio or to accommodate friends and family.”

“I designed the external garden in front of the office to replicate the feeling of a Mediterranean courtyard. By using the Cotswold stone and white walls, the light is reflected even on the dullest days. The main window to the front allows a great view and I am very pleased with the overall look of the whole project.” - Julie Nobes
